Author

Patty Wain Smith has been recognized by the Hope PYX Global International Book Awards for her contribution to empowering women, and her book, A Letter to a Friend: The Story of Abuse in America.

Her first book, A Letter to a Friend: The Story of Abuse in America, won the Hope PYX Global International Book Award, two Illumination Book Awards Enduring Light Silver Medals, the Writer's Digest Book Awards Honorable Mention, five International Book Awards Finalists, and the Living Now Book Awards Bronze Medal.

Patty registered her first copyright in her teens, and was later awarded a Music City Song Festival Honorable Mention for one of her compositions. (To find the song—Each Time—that goes with A Letter to a Friend, click on the About section on her website and scroll down; or you can find it noted in the book.)

Patty has also worked as an educational consultant, a child development specialist, a hotline counselor for both Parents Anonymous and Citizens Against Spouse Abuse, and a speaker for the Family Justice Center of GHC Speakers Bureau. Patty also created a family violence prevention program. She has appeared on Carolina and Company Live TV and on radio.

She has a BA in Psychology with a graduate course in counseling, and is a member of the Psi Chi International Honor Society. Patty is an associate professional member of the Authors Guild, and a member of the Nonfiction Authors Association, the Southeastern Writers Association, and the South Carolina Writers Association.

Patty is a lifetime advocate for those who are made to feel powerless (disproportionately, women and children). She believes we thrive in healthy relationships and that everyone deserves them. She also believes that children gain their greatest sense of "self" in safe and nurturing environments.
